Home Depot 1.) The Location for this project is the south end of Royal North Parkway, just north of the intersection of Shiloh Road and Cherokee St behind the Walgreens. The land is correctly zoned for the project since 1994 so we do not get a public hearing on this case. The Demographics of our area have changed considerably since 1994 and while less intense commercial uses would be acceptable, a Home Depot will push the infrastructure in this area past its’ limits. 2.) Safety is a big concern. There is a Fire Station almost directly across the street which supplies local residents with emergency response for fire and health issues. Response times would be increased unacceptably especially during peak traffic hours and increased property losses and deaths could result. 3.) Traffic on Cherokee Street barely moves at peak hours and there are currently no funds allocated to improve this road. 4.) Cherokee Street is an entrance to the City of Kennesaw and access will be difficult. This could discourage visitors to this Historic City. 5.) The Home Depot would have a much better traffic flow at the old Walmart Location just on the other side of I-75. A sign from this location could be seen from I-75. It is also closer and much easier to reach after exiting I-75 and will be in a perfect position to serve the same customer base. 6.) Renovating this site with an eye towards aesthetics would go a long way with Customer Relations giving them an understandable traffic flow, easy in and out access and it would give Customers a nice looking place to shop. It would also help revitalize our community which in turn will give Home Depot a better place to do business. Revitalizing this property will not only help our community, it is also helping the community Home Depot is moving into, which in turn will help them to have a more profitable store. 7.) The publicity from this could be priceless for Home Depot while the flip side is if they go forward with the current plans, it could cause a backlash from their potential customers. 8.) We are currently working with Cobb County, Kennesaw City and Home Depot to help facilitate a win for all parties. View the current plans.See our letter to Home Depot.
